Event Update: GCBP Temple reviews its 4th annual summer youth meditation camp
Great Compassion Bodhi Prajna (GCBP) Temple, located in a tranquil forest not far from Toronto, is a registered temple in Canada. The temple follows Kagyu Lineage Buddhism and focuses on the three prong approach of practicing Buddhism through learning, reflecting, and meditating. The founding masters of GCBP Temple firmly believe that the sense of self-reflection, mindfulness, and moral values of a Buddhist should be fostered at a young age.
In the spring of 2017, GCBP Temple had the great honor and privilege of hosting the Leader of the Karma Kagyu school of Buddhism – His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje. Upon receiving the guidance, blessing, and support from His Holiness Karmapa, the masters at GCBP Temple have become more determined than ever to continue sowing the seed of dharma in the hearts of the younger generation.
Since 2014, GCBP Temple has hosted annual Buddhist summer meditation camps. The masters taught dharma through both lectures and activities, helped the youths understand the importance of these ideas, and showed how dharma should be applied in their daily lives. Through the five-day event that concluded on August 10th this year, the youths not only gained valuable dharma, but also developed a stronger sense of gratitude, compassion, and inner peace.
The wide variety of activities during the summer camp allowed the youths to keep active, collaborate, and make new friends. The masters taught the importance of gratitude and compassion through showing the youths the hardship of others. Converting these thoughts into action, the young camp goers made hand-crafted gifts for their parents and wrote down their prayers for those less fortunate in the world. During their stay at the temple, the youths also practiced giving back through helping with daily chores to keep up the temple. Through their actions, these young men and women demonstrated that they have retained and reflected on the teachings of the master and are now practicing Dharma.
